Using Job Offer Decision Matrix

When to use this

Use this when you have at least one concrete offer with real numbers, and ideally two to compare. It is far less useful on hypothetical roles, because the inputs become guesses.

How to read the result

Weighting is the point of the exercise. Scoring every factor equally lets salary carry the same weight as everything else, which is rarely what people actually mean when they compare offers. Set the weights before you enter the scores, so the result is not shaped by the answer you were hoping for.

What this tool cannot do

The matrix cannot price the things that matter most and are hardest to observe: your future manager, the team's actual workload, and whether the role described in the interview is the role you will do. Ask about those directly rather than trying to score them from the outside.

Next step

If two offers land within a few points, the numbers are telling you they are genuinely close. Decide on the single factor you weighted highest and stop scoring, because further rounds of adjustment usually reflect the answer you already want rather than new information.
